CRITTER CONTROL OF JACKSONVILLE

Eastern Mole Armadillo

Whether you have a big yard or a small garden, you have critters! We all love wildlife and sharing our space with them, but sometimes that means complete destruction of our gardens and properties. Burrowing animals can extensively damage your lawn by undermining the soil, creating unsightly mounds and eating roots.

YARD CRITTER CONTROL

Gardeners have devised many methods to coax burrowing critters out of the ground. They include using ultrasonic devices to scare them, filling the tunnels with water to flood them, igniting smoke bombs to gas them, setting bait to poison them and using propane torches to blast them. The only method that I have found to be successful over the years is a deterrent called Yard Gard.

How To Get Rid Of Armadillos From The Yard?

An armadillo's digging habits can be extremely destructive, which is why it's important to take control at the first signs of damage.

Common armadillo activities include:

  • digging holes throughout lawn
  • uprooting plants and seedlings
  • damaging underground pipes and wires
  • creating cracks in sidewalks, driveways or building foundations because of burrowing
  • burrowing next to or underneath structures, sidewalks, brush piles, low-lying shrubs, or other cover

EASTERN MOLE CONTROL

Eastern Mole
Learn About Eastern Mole

The Eastern Mole, occurs throughout Florida. The most notable aspect of the mole is its large, powerful front feet, designed for pushing soil out of its way. The eastern mole has an average total length of 5 to 6 inches.

They prefer loose, well-drained soils. The characteristic mole ridges that lie just below the surface are foraging tunnels. These tunnels are created as the mole searches among the plant roots for the earthworms and insects on which it feeds.

The damage caused by moles is almost entirely cosmetic. They may cause some physical damage to the root of ornamental or garden plants and may kill grass by drying out the roots, but this damage is usually minor.

How To Get Rid Of Moles From The Yard?

Why is mole control necessary? Because, mole holes are unsightly on lawns and can be disruptive to the root systems of garden plants. These pests lurk in their subterranean fortresses throughout the year. But gardening and lawn-care enthusiasts are made acutely aware of them mainly during the spring and fall, especially after periods of rain, when they push mounds of dirt up to the ground surface.
